Bo has given up everything to help his sister run her animal rehab centre while she is doing a four-month course that should give her a chance to expand the centre. The man planned to spend this time not only caring for the animals, but also making friends with his sister's attractive neighbor. Unfortunately, Sam turns out to be a perpetually dissatisfied and always complaining grump who is impossible to talk to. However, everything changes when Sam hears Bo's "conversation" with a pig, that makes him aware of his unfriendly behavior. Well, maybe a friendship between them is possible. But is friendship really enough?

"As Big as the Sky" is a really great novel by Amy Aislin, which I fell in love with in the blink of an eye. The first thing that I liked very much about this story was the amazing country/rural vibe of this novel. Animals, plants, peace, warm sun, the smell of grass… and a grump on the other side of the fence. How can we not fall in love with a story that serves us such a mix from the very beginning? However, with each new page this hodgepodge is being brought under control as the grump is finally changing and the rural vibe actually intensifies. I really liked it, because the vast majority of the novels I've read that had a similar atmosphere, introduced the character of a cowboy into the story. There is no such thing in "As Big as the Sky", which I consider a great advantage of this book. Sam and Bo are two ordinary men who lead unique lives close to nature. And yes, I love it.

The characters are undoubtedly another great advantage of this novel. When creating them, the author made sure that, as the story presented in this book unfolds, they change, discover and notice something new in themselves and in the world around them. The one who changes the most in "As Big as the Sky" and from the beginning has the greatest chance to change is certainly Bo. I love him and to a large extent I was able to identify with him, as I perfectly understand his lack of a clearly defined life path and goal that he would like to pursue. Bo is the character I consider to be the most true and real of all in this novel. But let's not forget about Sam, who was the first in this story to show us that there are cases where a person can change in the blink of an eye, because people are the beings driven by emotions. To be honest, I really like the fact that in his case the author focused, among other things, on the simplest but sometimes overlooked change that takes place in a person, which is a change in behavior towards others.

I think that a very interesting motif that Amy Aislin has woven into her novel is the trap of impressions and opinions. It seems to me that people sometimes don't even realize that they are letting someone else form their opinions and judgments for them. This problem applies to every field, for example, books, movies, people. Sometimes, instead of researching a topic, getting to know a person, reading a book or watching a movie, we prefer to rely on the opinions of others to the point where we do not notice how wrong or harmful those opinions are. In "As Big as the Sky" we see how much one person can gain by relying on their own judgment and how easy it is to get lost when we do not think clearly and are driven by emotions. The author showed this problem in a fantastic way, expanded it in an interesting manner and emphasized everything that is most important.

To sum up, "As Big as the Sky" is a really fantastic, positive novel, thanks to which you immediately feel the summer vibe and blissful calmness. When we start reading this book, we don't want to stop. We fall in love with the characters, we want to get to know them and their stories better. This is undoubtedly a novel worth reading.

Headcanon: When Bo feels more confident in his new job, he starts giving Sam strict orders when he wants him to do something or when he feels that Sam hasn't done his best at work.

Fanfiction idea: Bo has a cold and Sam persuades him to stay at home. When Sam's family finds out about Bo's condition, they immediately go to his home to look after him.

AU idea: Bo finds an abandoned dog on the street and decides to take care of him. After a while, it turns out that the dog (Sam) is actually a shapeshifter who has become attached to Bo and refuses to leave him.
