Two men, full of warmth and love, for whom helping others is a priority. The distance of about 5428 km that separates them and misunderstandings that make their loving hearts suffer constant tortures.
Max lives and works in New York, while Isaac runs an LGBTQ Youth Center in Lisbon. They met and fell in love a few months ago, and although it seems that their love came really close to finding its happy ending back then, the fate had other plans for them, as instead of helping, it made it really hard for them to be together. Will Max and Isaac overcome all obstacles and find a way to be together?

Max and Isaac are the characters, whom the readers had the opportunity to get to know thanks to "Made in New York" novella, which presented their first meeting and the beginning of their true and sweet love story. This time, Ana Newfolk has a chance not only to develop the subject of their feelings, but also to write more about their past and present life, thanks to which she raises the topics such as: domestic violence, homophobia, homelessness and several other equally important ones. What can I say, the fact that such extremely serious and important problems are touched in "Made in Manhattan" is undoubtedly a great advantage of this novel, as that's how the author draws the readers' attention to the fact that it is important to help people who are in a difficult life situation. However, let us note that although people from the LGBTQ + community are undoubtedly the main recipients of the said support, the author doesn't restrain the characters' willingness to help. Thus, she makes it clear that doing something good, we should not limit ourselves, but on the contrary, we should open ourselves to the world and all people who need help.
Another advantage of this novel is its sweetness. I admit that from time to time we can find a bit of bitterness here, which is influenced by, for example, already mentioned serious problems presented in this story, including the love ones, but all in all, the book is simply cute. At least that's how it is in my opinion, because while reading "Made in Manhattan" I screamed in my mind comments like: "It's so sweet!" or "He's so cute!" many, many times. Well, it is no wonder that I consider this novel to be characterized by great sweetness. And I admit that I am a huge fan of wonderfully cute and delightful stories, which turn our blood into liquid sugar while reading them. But keep calm, it's not happening in this case, although it is impossible to omit the fact that "Made in Manhattan" is sweet and somehow special as it makes the reader happier and more relaxed.
I must also point out that "Made in Manhattan" is a novel that sometimes surprises us, which is undoubtedly a huge plus of this story. It happens primarily in the second half of the book, thanks to which the readers, although they can conclude the ending, can't say that they have foreseen everything. In a sense, this is the reason why we read this story with undying interest and real pleasure. Nevertheless, I admit that from time to time we have the impression that some situations are a bit too contrived or too easy to deal with, because they heavily depend on happy coincidences, or at least that's how I see it. Well, it's not disturbing or irritating, but it is noticeable, which is why I decided to mention it.
Finally, I would like to talk about the relationship between the two main characters. On the one hand they have known each other for some time, but on the other, it should be noted that during all this time they didn't have the opportunity to get to know each other better. What's more, it is impossible to deny that in this case we're dealing with the topic of love at first sight, and this love in "Made in Manhattan" is simply strengthened and further developed. Although I have an aversion to this type of affection, I can't deny that in this case it makes this story more like a lovely fairytale, which really speaks to me. With her novel, Ana Newfolk reminded me that, before the real world took it away from me, there was a time when I believed in love at first sight. Who knows, maybe that's why I think this novel is so sweet.
In conclusion, "Made in Manhattan" is a novel really worth reading as it recharges our positive energy, makes us forget about our worries when we read it and motivates us to help people who need this help. What's more, Ana Newfolk's characters resemble some real-life heroes who fight for a just cause and have love and friendship on their side. In short, it is a really nice book, reading of which you will definitely not regret.
