Jack wasn't sure whether to believe in Santa or not. For Kris, who on Christmas Eve was delivering gifts to all children who believed, Jack was a flickering light. A light that changed his life forever, just as he changed Jack's life.

"He Sees You When You're Sleeping" is a short Christmas novella by Sara Dobie Bauer. However, the story that the author tells us differs from what we are used to. What makes this story different from others? Well, try to imagine Santa Claus and Krampus as one person. To be honest, this was the first association I thought about when I started reading this story and as I have thought about such a fusion before, it is possible that this a bit unusual comparison is the result of my earlier reflections. Nevertheless, I was really delighted with what Sara Dobie Bauer prepared for us all in "He Sees You When You're Sleeping". Good but bad Santa? Gifts on the one hand, and death on the other? Yes, it's a really amazing and deep combination. Even more so as the author added a lot of psychological depth and touching content to this story. I'm in love with this novella and I am sure that you will also fall head over heels in love with this book.

I would like to write a few more words about the story presented in "He Sees You When You're Sleeping". Its vibe is a combination of "A Christmas Carol" and "The Little Match Girl". So we can find here both a paranormal element, as well as social problems that directly affect the most innocent ones – children. So "He Sees You When You're Sleeping" is an amazing and truly magical story, but in a slightly different way than we expect, because the subjects discussed in this novella are undoubtedly very serious and deep. What's more, the author made sure that her story is surprising and difficult to predict. I would also add that it made me cry a little, when I really thought that I had my emotions under control and that it would not happen. However, Sara Dobie Bauer wrote this story in such a way that I couldn't fully prepare myself for this story, which I consider its great advantage.

Finally, I would like to talk about the characters. Let's start with the fact that winter comparisons associated with their names are inevitable and to a large extent make a great impression on us. It's because when reading "He Sees You When You're Sleeping" the said comparisons creep into our consciousness and influence the way we see Jack and Kris. However, what I think is the most important in the case of these characters is the fact that they immediately conquer our hearts, even though they are not sweet and perfect. The author created two fascinating, deep, psychologically complex people who attract readers, are very memorable and really addictive. We don't even know when we are so attached to them that we don't want this novel to end. Jack and Kris are like a drug.

To sum up, "He Sees You When You're Sleeping" is a novel that makes a great impression on the reader thanks to both its amazing, full of depth story and its fascinating characters. This is without a doubt one of the best Christmas stories I have read and from now on I will definitely keep reading this novella every year during Christmas time.

Headcanon: Over time, Kris begins to doubt what happened to him, and eventually forgets it completely. All that matters is who he is here and now.

Fanfiction idea: Years later, Kris and Jack go to a Christmas ball. That's when Kris sees the woman in black once again. He's almost forgotten about her, which is why memories of seeing her make him feel sick and he faints.

AU idea: Świąteczna Piękna i Bestia!AU, Kris jest Krampusem.
