Cut is a bartender who has a secret crush on one of his patrons. When he accidentally helps the guy he's interested in and makes an almost impossible to refuse offer, slowly everything starts to change. Acquaintance with Samson turns out to make the man's life easier and harder at the same time, but above all, makes it more interesting and valuable. By getting to know each other, Samson and Cut are slowly getting to know themselves better and their relations are evolving. Unfortunately, there are problems they must face that may threaten their new born relationship.

"Served with a Twist" is the volume that opens a new series by Jet Lupin entitled "Dome Stories". The first thing I would like to mention reviewing this book is the universe in which the story is set. I admit that I really like the fact that "Served with a Twist" is a science fiction novel because I rarely read this type of books. However, sometimes I feel that I need to broaden my reading horizons, and that's how it was this time. It is definitely worth noting that Jet Lupin introduces the subject of space and technology in a noticeable but rather subtle way, thanks to which the reader, who begins their adventure with this book, doesn't get lost in the presented world, they aren't overwhelmed by it. Nevertheless, the construction of the universe in this novel is very limited, rather minimal, and therefore not entirely satisfying. So to tell the truth, when reading, I missed a little more detailed and extensive descriptions of the world, its history, pros and cons.

While the novel loses some points for the creation of the universe, it quickly makes up for them with a multitude of raised themes. In "Served with a Twist" we find both more and less important problems, more and less serious ones, and those which are more or less detailed. In short, the story presented here has a depth that we discover from the beginning to the end. For example, let's look at Samson, who is a rich restaurant owner. At first glance, he lacks nothing, and yet his life is far from perfect. On the one hand, there is the problem of his difficult family relationship that is a reason behind his low self-esteem. On the other hand, we see the topic of work that is linked to the themes of family, overwork, responsibility. And all this affects Samson's passion for the D/s relationship and his need for total submission to someone. Believe me, it's just a small number of subjects that appear in this novel and relate to this character. To fully appreciate the depth that we find in "Served with a Twist" we would have to analyze this book chapter by chapter.

However, the topics raised in the novel are not all, because the very story that Jet Lupin tells us in this book is also worth mentioning. "Served with a Twist" is a really interesting book that develops on many different levels. On the one hand, Samson and Cut's story is built on an emotional plane, which affects both men separately. At some point, it's also enriched by the feelings that connect the two characters, which allows to add another plane to the creation of this novel. Then, we see that "Served with a Twist" develops also in terms of physical pleasure, in other words sex. All this is enriched with some problems that Samson and Cut have to face, which surely make their story even more interesting. I have no doubt that reading this book no one would be bored.

Finally, I would like to write a few words about the characters. Cut and Samson are undoubtedly a very interesting duo, because thanks to the fact that at first glance they don't seem to be the best match, following their story we have the opportunity to see that they are in fact the perfect combination. To tell the truth, it's all the more interesting because they also step by step discover that they are made for each other. But the fact that together they are the great advantage of the novel is not all. Cut and Samson are also the very valuable characters as individuals. And in this case their differences turn out to be very significant, because it is thanks to them that we fully feel that we are reading the novel about two separate, completely different from each other characters, and not some clones, whose only difference is the passion for domination or submission. Thus, in terms of character creation, Jet Lupine did really great.

To sum up, "Served with a Twist" is a really interesting and good novel, which draws the reader in and allows them to fully enjoy the insight into the complex psyche of the characters, their love story, ways in which they overcome the problems. In short, it is a novel about life that is really worth reading, because we can easily notice that the characters' problems are not so different from those we face every day.

About the Author

Stories longing to have words put to them were in Jet’s heart from an early age. Jet enjoys exploring the connections and similarities between people whether they be shifters, vampires, or aliens, rendering the unknowable very knowable indeed.

Jet’s days are spent toiling away at a keyboard, slumped over a pen and paper hunting for those words, or playing around on twitter with a partner, and two rambunctious cats for company in the temperamental North Eastern US.
